“Addressing gaps in the implementation and management of alternatives to imprisonment and post-release support during the COVID-19 global pandemic"
Project funded by the International Penal and Penitentiary Foundation (IPPF)
This project was supported by the International Penal and Penitentiary Foundation (IPPF).
The project included in-depth research in four countries (Georgia, Hungary, Kyrgyzstan and Portugal) as well as a summary comparative report on the impact of the pandemic on probation across Europe, based on the national reports from the EU Member States experts.
The ultimate goal of the project was to identify aspects that could make the system more resilient to future crisis and more adaptive to the needs of people in situations of particular vulnerability.
The project ran throughout 2021. The final event to present the project results took place in January 2022, in virtual format.
As a result of the project, national reports were prepared for each country involved. In addition, the UC team prepared a comparative study on the impact of the pandemic on non-custodial sanctions and measures in Member States of the European Union.
